West Press is looking for a Production Manager who is very familiar with Digital production as well as offset and other traditional commercial printing services. The main services offered at West Press include design, digital and offset printing, finishing with die cutting, fulfillment, and mailing services. Strong color management skills are necessary. Digital and offset color calibration experience would be a huge plus.
The right person for this position is someone who is a natural leader with aspirations to grow with the company. This person must be extremely organized; patient; have strong writing and verbal skills; flexible with changes in workflow and production demands; and have very good problem solving skills. They need to have print production and print leadership experience. Interaction with employees must be fair and consistent, not too nice, not too mean - trustworthy and approachable. Some mechanical and computer skills are required.
This position will interact with trade vendors and the post office. The Production Manager is expected to offer time and money saving ideas to improve the company as well as participate with equipment and personnel decisions. Running the daily production meeting and assisting with job scheduling is also part of this position’s responsibility.
Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, ten years of experience in the commercial printing industry, with at least four years as a supervisor/manager. Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty pounds and be on their feet for long periods of time. Attire for this position is business casual. Work schedules are Monday-Friday “normal” hours; full-time; salaried position.
Strong mechanical, trouble-shooting, and communication skills are required for this position. Must have experience on commercial bindery equipment such as folders, programmable cutters, booklet/saddle stitch binders, perfect binders, and die cutters. Applicants must be able to work in a fast-paced environment; work well with others; and read and interpret work orders. Attention to detail is critical.

Digital print production has been a part of West Press for many years. It continues to grow and now requires expansion. This position needs an operator who has experience working with high-volume digital presses such as Indigo, Docucolor, BizHub, NexPress or Canon 7000. Applicants must have strong color management skills; know how to use both Mac and PC platforms; familiar with variable data print orders; and can work with most graphic programs, including MS Word and Excel. Digital operators must know paper types, weights, sizes and also be able to manage the paper catalog built into most digital presses. Quality and attention to detail are a must. Reading and interpreting work orders is required as well as strong communication skills. Applicants must be able to get along with others.

A better name for this position is job manager. CSRs are the liaison between sales and production. There job is to take the printing order from the Account Executive or customer, write work orders for production, then keep track of the job throughout production, insuring a quality product is delivered on time. CSRs need to understand production processes for pre-press, design, offset and digital printing, bindery and mailing. Working with direct mail orders requires a CSR to have general knowledge of USPS rules and regulations as well as database formats. The CSR is also in charge of scheduling trade bindery work. This position requires someone who has above average communication and organization skills as well as good business sense. CSRs are not in charge of estimating but need to know how to build detailed work orders in current and future systems. The current estimating and invoicing system in use is PrintSmith. To be able to enter jobs accurately into production, CSRs need to know paper types, weights, sizes and colors; they also need to know both PMS and CMYK inks. This position requires problem solving skills.
A CSR must be able to get along with others while working in a fast-paced environment. Interaction with internal and external customers must always be at a professional level.
A high school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of recent experience as a Customer Service Representative are required for this position. Applicants must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time as well as operate a computer. Attire for this position is business casual. This position is full-time, Monday-Friday.
Online order services continue to grow for West Press as more customers look for efficient and pre-authorized options to place print and fulfillment orders. Applicants need to have graphic design experience in addition to web and eCommerce development and troubleshooting skills. Development skills should include at a minimum (but not limited to), PHP and JavaScript coding and MySQL database experience. Must be fluent on both Mac and PC platforms. The nature of this position requires a critical and analytical mindset. The working environment can be demanding at times. Applicants need to know how to type. Familiarity with PTI Marketing Technoligies (formally Printable) FusionPro and PagePath MyOrderDesk is a plus. This position requires some interaction with customers, both internal and external. Communication with customers must always be professional and at a technical level they can understand (i.e., English vs. TechnoSpeak.)
A minimum of two years of college or technical training and three years working in the industry is required for this position. An electronic portfolio will be required at the interview.
